We explore the thoughts of artists and music sharing. In today's digital age, discovering new music has become more accessible than ever due to online platforms like Spotify, SoundCloud, and download services such as Beatport. While traditional methods of exploring music, such as visiting record shops, have diminished in popularity, the process of musical exploration remains significant and enriching, especially when one encounters a standout track. For performing artists, the quest for fresh music is a continuous endeavor, often regarded as equally important as the performance itself. This raises an interesting question: is it appropriate for artists to keep the details of their music sources confidential? This topic invites further discussion from some of the South West DJs and producers on the nature of music discovery in the modern landscape.

Artist Interview

"...Seeing what you can create on a dance floor or at a festival - it's truly wonderful big or small, it's what I love doing."

Hi Dan, please introduce yourself.

Hi I'm Dan aka DJ Dan Cave, Firstly thank you for having me! Really excited to do my first exclusive podcast for you.

A man wearing headphones is playing music on a dj mixer.

Talk us through your DJ career.

I started on vinyl first back in the mid 1990s playing vocal House / Uplifting Trance for most of the phase 2s and some club's around Cornwall at that time such as The Shire, Strawberry fields and The Venue. Music has always been a very big part in my life and in my soul. Just seeing what you can create on a dance floor or at a festival it's truly wonderful big or small it's what I love doing. Around 2001 I started to flow more over to Hard House / Hard Trance, The scene was at it's peak then really Undergound. I then stopped playing for sometime in 2006, Then in 2014 I was diagnose with Cancer but that pushed me even more into getting back playing out again, So 2015 I went over to digital and fell in love with it all again, The passion' the drive' it's now my time to give back and enjoy the sounds. Over the last couple of years I've played for festivals clubs around Cornwall, Masked Ball / Frendzy fest / Lizard Party / Holifair fest , Boxx club / Charlie's Bar. I run my own event's when I can.

Describe your DJ sound.

Today I'm enjoying playing a mix of genres Tech House / Funky Tech / Melodic House Techno / Deep Techno / Hard Techno / Psy Trance / Hard House. I'm really liking the more deeper darker Tech House and Techno where it hit's the soul, But I still like a nice cheeky Vocal.

What events are you playing in 2020?

2020 is definitely going to be one of the best time's I have ever had in my life, A massive Thank you! to Danny Gould and Andy Manstan for the invite to play alongside some of my fave dj's and producers, one of the world's Biggest Name's House music ClockStoke 20th June Chelmsford. Also really honoured to be asked to play the Legendry Club that is called Egg London. Will be playing Club's & festival in and around Devon & Cornwall with more event's happening up and down the county in the year. I will be hosting some charity event as well, 2020 is looking amazing!
