We explore the thoughts of artists and music sharing. In today's digital age, discovering new music has become more accessible than ever due to online platforms like Spotify, SoundCloud, and download services such as Beatport. While traditional methods of exploring music, such as visiting record shops, have diminished in popularity, the process of musical exploration remains significant and enriching, especially when one encounters a standout track. For performing artists, the quest for fresh music is a continuous endeavor, often regarded as equally important as the performance itself. This raises an interesting question: is it appropriate for artists to keep the details of their music sources confidential? This topic invites further discussion from some of the South West DJs and producers on the nature of music discovery in the modern landscape.

Stuff that has a big impact on the dancefloor.

Hi, Please introduce yourself to those unfamiliar with your DJ life.

I’m Devinyl. Drum & Bass DJ, I’ve been playing out down here since 1997. Originally playing old school hardcore before moving on to Hard Trance and then finally moving my music in a different direction and finding myself immersed in Drum & Bass. Mainly playing on the jump up side of things whilst also flirting with Neuro and of course Jungle.

Describe your DJ sound.

High energy party vibe dnb mainly. Stuff that has a big impact on the dancefloor.

Tell us how you have kept busy during the last year or so of lockdowns.

I used the lockdown period to learn production. I actually really enjoyed having the time to finally sit down and learn after years of wanting to do so. I’ve managed to make a fair bit of material in that time and once I’ve managed to perfect my mixdowns a little more I’ll be looking to start releasing it via the label I’ve set up recently.

You can expect to hear releases of mine on Sick & Naughty Records by the end of the year!

So I’ve largely stepped away from being active within the DJ circuit what I look to explore the production avenue a little further.

However saying that, I’ll be looking forward to airing some of my tracks at NASS Festival next month and Orbital Gathering - The Forbidden Planet Part 2!

A man is playing a dj set in a dark room.

Talk us through this podcast episode and why you have chosen to include the tracks that have made the cut.

Well I’ve done a number of podcasts for you over the years now so I wanted to try and mix it up a little and putting it to the vote on Facebook I went with a 1 for 1 Jump Up Vz Neuro set.

I’ve aimed to make it super high energy from the start and throughout as it’s just a half hour mix this time round. So tune selection tries to deliver on that front whilst exploring a few different flavours within both Jump Up and Neuro.

Hopefully if you have me again I’ll be able to feature a load of my own material for you.

Thank you for having me!

Quick shout out to some of those doing bits at the moment within the Cornwall Dance music scene and keeping the scene thriving in these difficult times for the industry -

Dollface, Jinal, Tuskan, Sinprint, Wye-Fi, Mumbo, JTR, Leroy & Cozzie, Miss Trixsta, Bertie’s, Noise Pollution crew, Masked Ball, Charlie G and Boardmasters and all the numerous dnb heads I’ve forgotten to mention.
