We explore the thoughts of artists and music sharing. In today's digital age, discovering new music has become more accessible than ever due to online platforms like Spotify, SoundCloud, and download services such as Beatport. While traditional methods of exploring music, such as visiting record shops, have diminished in popularity, the process of musical exploration remains significant and enriching, especially when one encounters a standout track. For performing artists, the quest for fresh music is a continuous endeavor, often regarded as equally important as the performance itself. This raises an interesting question: is it appropriate for artists to keep the details of their music sources confidential? This topic invites further discussion from some of the South West DJs and producers on the nature of music discovery in the modern landscape.

Artist Interview

I've had a number of decent releases in 2024 as well, being a featured artist on Juno Download...

Please introduce yourself to those unfamiliar with your DJ sound.

I've been dj'ing and producing music collectively for almost 20 years now. I'd say my sound is funky, feel-good music. I mainly play anything from disco to house music, and everything in between, including some classics from the 90s and 00s.

What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?

Highlights from last year have to be being on the same line up as one of my favourite DJ and producers - Michael Gray - and gave him a couple of my own vinyl releases (in exchange for him signing some of his records that I had in my collection lol). On top of that, I started a new residency with South West based brand Sunset Social Club, playing at some unreal venues in Cornwall. Playing at Rock Oyster for the third year in a row, and my continued residency with Sonar in Plymouth.

I've had a number of decent releases in 2024 as well, being a featured artist on Juno Download, a Number 1 vinyl release, and Craig Charles personally asking for one of my EPs to play on his Radio 6 show! LF System also added one of my tracks to their Ministry of Sound Ibiza closing party mix compilation, which was a nice surprise to find.

2025 will see more gigs, and venues being played in and around the South West, hopefully more out of County, and the release schedule is starting to fill up!

...one guy popped into my head and I thought, yeah! Moodena.

Tell us something positive to inspire future artists.

Network. Collab. Learn. Don't be shy to ask for help/advice.

What artists have inspired your DJ style?

I was struggling to think of this one, then one guy popped into my head and I thought, yeah! Moodena. He plays a wicked mix of disco, house and classics. Other than that quite possibly LF System. I've listened to a few of their sets on SoundCloud and we play a similar vibe.

Talk us through your podcast mix track selection.

I've tried to include a variety of old-ish, current and future promos in here, including an unreleased track from myself. The mix is one to get you thinking of the summer months to come. Party time!
