We explore the thoughts of artists and music sharing. In today's digital age, discovering new music has become more accessible than ever due to online platforms like Spotify, SoundCloud, and download services such as Beatport. While traditional methods of exploring music, such as visiting record shops, have diminished in popularity, the process of musical exploration remains significant and enriching, especially when one encounters a standout track. For performing artists, the quest for fresh music is a continuous endeavor, often regarded as equally important as the performance itself. This raises an interesting question: is it appropriate for artists to keep the details of their music sources confidential? This topic invites further discussion from some of the South West DJs and producers on the nature of music discovery in the modern landscape.

I’m looking forwards to the throwback “Good Old Days” events and a few others.

Hi, please introduce yourself to those who are unfamiliar with your DJ work.

I’m Greg Zizique, probably best know or remembered for being a resident at Dance Academy and Tranz@ction. Over the years I have ended up supporting a lot of the big names and artists most have danced to at home and on the dance floors.

Talk us through how you have utilised your time during the lockdown.

After 23 years of djing and driving up and down the A30 and A38 I have enjoyed the slower pace and will be doing less events when the lockdown(s) end and the return to normality begins. It’s been a great number of years but time to let everyone else do the same amount of effort I have put in over the years in the South West. I’m looking forwards to the throwback “Good Old Days” events and a few others.

I have been sorting out the remaining vinyl I kept and recording any limited editions, white labels and test pressings from back in the day. This took many hours of sifting, sorting, cleaning and then recording. This then led to recording 25 volumes of Retrospective mixtapes (all house) and I mean actual house, proper house with songs, vocals and quality music. They can be heard on my Mixcloud and all finished at around 1.5 hours each time, so it’s a proper dig and delve musical sessions.

Describe your DJ style.

Broadly speaking it’s house music, however I’m used to taking on the task of a warm up slot or closing set. Both require you to adapt and flow with the mood of the crowd rather than focusing in on one niche style or genre specific sound. Equally you can find me busting out the classics from house to trance and all the good time tunes in between from the better years of electronic dance music. I’ve always maintained adaptability for various set times and floors works best, after all, anyone can mix the latest Beatport Tech House Top 10; but that doesn’t mean the crowd in front of you want to hear it!

Talk us through your Podcast Mix track selection.

For this Little South podcast I have whipped through new takes and updates on many classic dance anthems and big tunes. I did this as I thought it would make a more fun and enjoyable mix; rather than the generic tech house, which is getting a bit too mundane now. Enjoy a jam-packed mix of pumping housers and peak time smashers.
