Podcast mixes devinyl episode 2/19 by little south

We're really happy to have Devinyl back behind the decks for a fresh DnB hot mix for 2019. Describing his mix as being as 'up front as possible', Devinyl drops a few different styles into his latest podcast mix.

Welcome back to the podcast series Devinyl - what were your highlights of 2018?
Well thanks for having me once again Little South, it’s always an honour when asked to do a podcast for you guys. In all honesty, 2018 was a quieter year for me than usual. There are still a few highlights to think of though. Firstly the Rebellion DNB nights that I put on at Raze The Roof. We put a lot of time and money in to making sure the production across the event was top class. It was pretty crazy DJ’ing / raving in a soft play warehouse but the G Dub night in particular went off. The vibes were amazing and the crowd had a great night. The other highlight that probably sticks out for me was getting to play at a free party in an old barn conversion in the middle of nowhere. It was good to see the techno heads and the drum n bass crew together raving away, took me back to when here were free parties happening all the time in Cornwall. There was also an awesome boat party and various Recreational Sounds events that I played at which always have smiley vibes in the venue.

What artists / labels have you got your eye on this year?
Low Down Deep for me is my favourite label year on year. They always seem to push the best of the new talent coming though whilst having some absolute legends on the rosta. To name a few I’m really supporting artists such as Basstripper, Kanine, K Motionz, Ego Trippin, Turno, Heist. I could go on for days. But the stand out guy over the last 12 months for me has to be Basstripper.

Any early gig/festival bookings?
I have a few things in the pipeline at the moment however I’m afraid I can’t say too much about most of that right now. However I am starting to do some nights in Truro’s newest venue - BamBooze. Truro nightlife has been suffering for a while so I’m trying to inject a bit of life back in to that. Our first night is on Saturday 2nd Feb , free entry before midnight. Come and check it out. However the most exciting news on that front that I can reveal is that myself and DJ Leroy are looking to bring back our High Rollers DNB UK brand this year. I personally am hoping to put on at least 2 High Rollers nights this year! Stay tuned!

Talk us through your tune selection for this podcast mix
Well I really wanted to play as much upfront stuff as possible so there are a fair few forthcoming releases from Low Down Deep in there, including plenty from the artists I mentioned earlier. However there were a few tunes that I hadn’t played for a while in there too. I chuck a few different styles across the set too so should be a little bit of something for everyone. Party vibes all the way.

We explore the thoughts of artists and music sharing. In today's digital age, discovering new music has become more accessible than ever due to online platforms like Spotify, SoundCloud, and download services such as Beatport. While traditional methods of exploring music, such as visiting record shops, have diminished in popularity, the process of musical exploration remains significant and enriching, especially when one encounters a standout track. For performing artists, the quest for fresh music is a continuous endeavor, often regarded as equally important as the performance itself. This raises an interesting question: is it appropriate for artists to keep the details of their music sources confidential? This topic invites further discussion from some of the South West DJs and producers on the nature of music discovery in the modern landscape.
