...I enrolled into college to learn to produce which has been awesome!

Hi, please introduce yourself to those unfamiliar with your work.

Hello again Little South listeners!  It’s great to be back after a crazy year! For those of you that don’t know me I am Danae.  I play all things house music but do love to throw in the occasional curve ball into my sets.  My Dj’ing journey began in the mid 90’s where I first donned a pair of headphones and embraced the 1210’s mixing Jungle.  Since then, I have embraced most genres as the music scene grew and changed including UK Garage, House, Drum & Bass to name a few.  But my desire always swings back to House, there are so many sub genres to House Music, and I love to take my crowds and listeners on a journey through music.

How have you utilised the 2020/21 lockdowns?

2020 lockdown, now that was an interesting time.  If I am hand on heart honest, I really lost my mojo.  It was a really challenging time going from gigging all of the time eating, sleeping and breathing music to nothing at all.  So I focussed on my family, as I quickly realised I wasn’t ever going to get this time again with them.  Subsequently I enrolled into college to learn to produce which has been awesome!  I am just going into my second year and am very excited to be embarking on this journey!

2021 has bought much change!  I am now focussing on solo activities and have been lucky enough to play at some of the South West’s finest festivals, Boardmasters, The Great Estate, Little Orchard Cider Festival, Rattler Fest and The Weekender.  I have no words to describe how good it feels to be back doing what I love most!

I never plan a set, I rock up with my headphones...

Describe your DJ style.

I can’t really describe my DJ style….  I just love to play a bit of everything!  I never plan a set, I rock up with my headphones and play to the crowd and that is how I roll!

Talk us through your podcast mix track selection.

My track selection for this mix is a real mixed bag featuring some of my favs, Purple Disco Machine, Julie McKnight, Claptone, Sam Supplier and Higher Contrast.  Expect some classic house remixes and get lost in the music.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed recording it!  Thanks for having me again…. One Love xx

We explore the thoughts of artists and music sharing. In today's digital age, discovering new music has become more accessible than ever due to online platforms like Spotify, SoundCloud, and download services such as Beatport. While traditional methods of exploring music, such as visiting record shops, have diminished in popularity, the process of musical exploration remains significant and enriching, especially when one encounters a standout track. For performing artists, the quest for fresh music is a continuous endeavor, often regarded as equally important as the performance itself. This raises an interesting question: is it appropriate for artists to keep the details of their music sources confidential? This topic invites further discussion from some of the South West DJs and producers on the nature of music discovery in the modern landscape.
