DJ Leroy delivers a mix in honour of the late Jay Day (of Newquay's Code Red DnB crew). The mix crams in ten years of tracks from the Code Red nights. Leroy talks about the plans to raise funds for Cornwall's local hospital and a big club night that is planned!
Hi, you are a familiar face on the South West scene so most of us already know what you do best - but this time you have important fundraising news?
Thank you so much for having me back to do another podcast. I have something special for guys this time as it happens. As many of your readers & listeners from the South West may know, the Newquay nightlife scene recently lost a legend.
My friend Jay Day who ran the Code Red Drum & Bass nights weekly for over 10 years, recently lost his battle against Cancer. He was very public with his condition in an attempt to shed light on its real world impact for him & his amazing family. He passed away leaving a monumental imprint on anyone fortunate enough to have met him. He did not want his illness to define him, and in actual fact, alongside his daughter Tia, Jay set up a charity with the sole purpose of raising much needed funds for his local hospital to try and help others fighting Cancer.
Forever Days Cornwall raised money specifically for the Cancer Wards at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro.
If you feel you could help, here is the link for the fundraising page:
Talk us through this podcast episode and why you have chosen to include the tracks that have made the cut.
The Podcast Mix I have done for you this time reflects the very best era in my DNB DJ career, playing weekly to Newquay crowds alongside my mate Jay and the Code Red gang. I really had to work hard on this one as so many tunes couldn't be included due to time constraints, so I have mixed 5 tunes from each year from 2007-2017 plus a couple of extras, so if you ever went to a Code Red DNB Night in Newquay in that time, you would recognise a lot of these tunes! It was a chance for me to go down memory lane, and hearing these tunes after so long brought back the feelings & memories I treasured with Jay and the gang at each and every one of those loud, sweaty and often packed nights upstairs in Red Square, Koola Bar and many more!
