DJ Leroy is back in our podcast spotlight with another drum and bass 'uplift' - something we could all do with right now. This time he's going for new artists to feature. Leroy also wants to highlight an important fundraiser for one of his fellow artists who has supported the South West DnB scene.
Hi, what a year! What's new?
Thanks for having me back again. Well, here we are, still in a kind of Lockdown, no real idea of when we can get on the dance floor again! Hopefully, it will be sooner rather than later! I have been super busy since we spoke last, as Cozzie & I are expecting our baby at the end of July.
Event wise, the South West has not had it easy, and a spike in Covid cases after the G7 has left a sour taste in the County.
Our community has by far and away had the most negative impact from Covid, and if we are honest, the UK Govt doesn't appear to value us as much as you may have thought.
All I know is, people want to be together, dance and enjoy themselves, it is one our most primal urges. Let's hope things get better soon, as we are all only here once.
Tell us about your fundraising cause.
Before I talk about the mix, I wanted to highlight something that has happened to one of my best mates. Jay Day (DJ Re:Defeat) is the founder of Code Red, Newquay. He was responsible for running weekly Drum & Bass nights in Newquay for over 12 years.
As a team, we won the Best DNB Night at the SW DNB Awards, we have travelled overseas to DJ, and we did all of this with a huge smile on our faces. Without Jay, I wouldn't be the DJ I am today.
Jay has been diagnosed with Cancer, and as his friend, I wanted to do something for him and his 13 year old daughter, Tia. So, the local community has been donating to his Justgiving page, as we want to send them on a trip of a lifetime to EuroDisney. We had an initial target of £5k, so far, the pot is nearly £10k.
It goes to show the impact this guy has had on those that know him. If you can help, please do, here is the link.
Talk us through your podcast mix track selection.
So, onto the mix. For this one, I have again gone with newer unsigned artists as a feature, playing only a few mainstream tunes. Hopefully you enjoy it as much as I did recording it.
