We explore the thoughts of artists and music sharing. In today's digital age, discovering new music has become more accessible than ever due to online platforms like Spotify, SoundCloud, and download services such as Beatport. While traditional methods of exploring music, such as visiting record shops, have diminished in popularity, the process of musical exploration remains significant and enriching, especially when one encounters a standout track. For performing artists, the quest for fresh music is a continuous endeavor, often regarded as equally important as the performance itself. This raises an interesting question: is it appropriate for artists to keep the details of their music sources confidential? This topic invites further discussion from some of the South West DJs and producers on the nature of music discovery in the modern landscape.

Glastonbury Festival 2024

26th - 30th June 2024

Worthy Farm, Pilton

Glastonbury 2024 is set to feature an impressive lineup of A-list artists, with Dua Lipa, Coldplay, and SZA taking the spotlight as headliners. The festival, scheduled for June 26-30, will also showcase a diverse supporting lineup including talents like Little Simz, LCD Soundsystem, Burna Boy, and Shania Twain in the revered "legend" slot.

Coldplay, a favorite of Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis, has a longstanding history with the festival. They are the first act to headline the Pyramid stage five times, starting with their debut performance in 2002. Despite having only one album at the time, Coldplay quickly rose to prominence in the pop-rock scene. Over the years, they have returned to headline in 2005, 2011, and 2016. In 2021, the band delivered a livestreamed performance on the empty Pyramid stage field after the festival was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Eavis once famously remarked that Coldplay could "call in and do the milking any time" on his Worthy Farm site, highlighting the special bond between the band and the festival.

The Glastonbury Festival 2023 was an electrifying display of musical talent, featuring iconic acts such as Arctic Monkeys, Guns N'Roses, and Sir Elton John headlining the event. Yet, the true enchantment of Glastonbury lies in its ability to astonish and delight with its clandestine performances. While the confirmed lineup is undoubtedly impressive, the festival is celebrated for its impromptu and unforeseen showcases, where both emerging and established artists take the stage in unexpected and unforgettable ways. The anticipation and speculation surrounding these surprise performances only serve to heighten the excitement, with whispers of special guests circulating in the months leading up to the festival, creating an aura of mystery and fascination that enthralls audiences worldwide. It's this element of surprise and the potential for once-in-a-lifetime musical moments that render Glastonbury an unparalleled experience.

Coldplay will be headlining the 2024 European festival show as part of their Music of the Spheres world tour, which is currently ranked as the third-highest grossing tour of all time. Dua Lipa recently announced her upcoming third album, Radical Optimism, following the success of her singles Houdini and Training Season. These songs draw inspiration from gracefully navigating chaos and are influenced by music genres such as psychedelia, trip hop, and Britpop. Dua Lipa's past performances at Glastonbury in 2016 and 2017 left a lasting impression, and her upcoming headline slot at the festival continues the tradition of featuring pop acts alongside renowned artists like Beyoncé, Adele, Billie Eilish, and Elton John.

R&B singer SZA recently made her debut at Glastonbury, where she ascended to the prestigious position of Pyramid headliner. This achievement marks the pinnacle of her remarkable journey in the music industry. Her latest album, SOS, released in 2022, has garnered widespread acclaim for its portrayal of relationship struggles with exceptional intricacy and emotion. The album has won three Grammy Awards, and SZA received nominations for song, record, and album of the year. SOS also achieved top rankings, reaching No. 1 in the US and No. 2 in the UK.
