We are proud to still use the good old fashioned Technics 1210's scratching and cutting Jamaican 45's wherever possible.

Hi guys, please introduce yourselves to those unfamiliar with your DJ life.

We are Selecta benjahman, Dj originL, Broken reality, Ras fox. We have been actively representing reggae & dancehall within the Cornish music scene for the last 15 years. We've been bringing positive vibes & authentic Jamaican culture to bars, boats & beaches across the Westcountry.

We play all kinds of authentic reggae music from studio 1 classics to rub-a-dub and contemporary roots to dancehall, mixed in a vinyl juggling style. We are proud to still use the good old fashioned Technics 1210's scratching and cutting Jamaican 45's wherever possible.

Talk us through how you filled your time during the lockdown.

Throughout lockdown we have stayed connected to our fans & listeners through our regular "OUT OF THE REGGAE SHOW" on Source FM every Sunday between 2-4pm. We also had our regular streams on Facebook live via the Konquerin Soundz page that throughout the summer took us to some great locations & settings.

We were able to give our listeners a glimpse of the iconic Cornish sunsets, other livestreams included - Lets play reggae live, based in holland, Reggaelise it & Reggae djs254 that are based in Nirobi, Kenya. As well as that we have been spending our time collecting & rediscovering new & old music that we can incorporate in our upcoming mixes & DJ sets.

When lockdown struck we had just returned from Kingston Jamaica where we recorded some great new material for up & coming releases on Konquerin Soundz recordings. The pandemic has slowed music productions down, but Dj originL is constantly in the lab producing our new riddims & dubplates ready for when the parties start again.

This year we had to cancel our series of Rubba dub dub inna tug Reggae boat parties...

What events should you have played at this year?

This year we had to cancel our series of Rubba dub dub inna tug Reggae boat parties, that over the years have been fundamental to the South West reggae scene. We also had a few festival bookings & an exclusive beach gig in Southern Italy cancelled. Fortunately throughout summer we were able to do some live DJ sets at local beach bars & socially distanced venues that has helped us through these testing times.

What’s planned for 2021?

We want to say a big thanks to Little South for the opportunity to let us represent the UK reggae scene & look out for future Konquerin Soundz mixes, shows & gigs.

We explore the thoughts of artists and music sharing. In today's digital age, discovering new music has become more accessible than ever due to online platforms like Spotify, SoundCloud, and download services such as Beatport. While traditional methods of exploring music, such as visiting record shops, have diminished in popularity, the process of musical exploration remains significant and enriching, especially when one encounters a standout track. For performing artists, the quest for fresh music is a continuous endeavor, often regarded as equally important as the performance itself. This raises an interesting question: is it appropriate for artists to keep the details of their music sources confidential? This topic invites further discussion from some of the South West DJs and producers on the nature of music discovery in the modern landscape.
