We explore the thoughts of artists and music sharing. In today's digital age, discovering new music has become more accessible than ever due to online platforms like Spotify, SoundCloud, and download services such as Beatport. While traditional methods of exploring music, such as visiting record shops, have diminished in popularity, the process of musical exploration remains significant and enriching, especially when one encounters a standout track. For performing artists, the quest for fresh music is a continuous endeavor, often regarded as equally important as the performance itself. This raises an interesting question: is it appropriate for artists to keep the details of their music sources confidential? This topic invites further discussion from some of the South West DJs and producers on the nature of music discovery in the modern landscape.

a mix fix fit for a lockdown.

There has been so many new and interesting Podcast Mixes in 2020 that have given us a lift during a particularly difficult year of Coronavirus lockdowns. We have seen artists such as DJ Ricardo bringing sunshine to some dark days, Alex Speller picking up the pace for those desperately seeking a dance floor fix and artists such as Cozzie Watt and Devinyl giving solid representation for the broken beats scene in the South West.

Deciding upon a single episode to capture our year of mixes has been so difficult, but ultimately we based our decision on the following areas: combined popularity across our main podcast providers, visitor feedback and page traffic in the first week of publish.

Danae B has taken the title for 2020 and her episode represented so much to our audience. Danae's Podcast Mix included tracks from Peggy Gou, David Penn, Purple Disco Machine and Claptone. The episode attracted comments such as "a mix fix fit for a lockdown" and "forgetting what I'm missing this summer it's all about the house party for 2."

2020 has also been a year of evaluation and growth for me. Having all of the amazing festivals and gigs that were lined up for me to play at being cancelled, it really made me evaluate where I am going on my musical journey.

Danae B - Congratulations on taking the title 'Podcast Mix of the Year 2020'!

Thank you so much! I am absolutley thrilled, such an unexpected surprise and such a positive note to finish a very uneasy 2020.

As it has been for everyone, 2020 has been an extremely challenging year. Quite honestly I found myself losing my mojo when it came to DJ'ing, which in the end has turned into a huge positive for me. Instead of researching and discovering only new house tracks, I've found myself listening to a really broad spectrum of genres of music, which has actually been incredibly inspirational.

2020 has also been a year of evaluation and growth for me. Having all of the amazing festivals and gigs that were lined up for me to play at being cancelled, it really made me evaluate where I am going on my musical journey. In turn I've begun my producing journey which has been incredible. I've definitely discovered the next chapter.

What are you most looking forward to in 2021?

cannot wait to get back on the wheels of steel and do what I love most! Getting people up and dancing, feeling their energy and watching them get lost in the moment. It is really a massive privilege to be able to share the gift of music with people.

I am also very excited about producing and will definitely have released my first track by around September time.

How will you be celebrating NYE to round off 2020?

I was supposed to be DJ'ing tonight, however with moving into Tier 3, those plans were quashed. So instead we have a fire lit, some fizz at the ready and I'm spending NYE 2020 with the loves of my life, my gorgeous boyfriend and beautiful girls.

Happy New year everyone!
