Thumbs Up For Camp Bestival 2019

July 25th - 28th 2019 | Lulworth Castle, Dorset

A statue of a robot with a peace sign on top of it.

Camp Bestival 2019 was the incredible family friendly escapism that served up some of the best live acts this summer. Blessed with sizzlingly hot weather from start to finish, Lulworth Castle and it's grounds looked amazing. Every corner of Camp Bestival had something quirky to see and do.

"This is a festival where you can catch CBeebies' Mr Tumble and Mr Bloom entertaining their loyal fans..."

This is a festival where the headliners get the large crowds but the live music is only a part of the huge family entertainment package. Musical highlights include the Human League who had the crowds dancing to 80s hits on the main stage. David Rodigan had the Bollywood tent bouncing to reggae beats. But it was Nile Rodgers & Chic that packed the punches as they played hit after hit on the main stage on Saturday night.

This is a festival where you can catch CBeebies' Mr Tumble and Mr Bloom entertaining their loyal fans or reading bedtime stories. The The children's air guitar was very entertaining! Rascals Raves sent huge balloons out into the arena to a slick house music DJ set.

Did we mention the woodland 'mud kitchen'? This was a place where kids could have some good old fun in the mud. Elsewhere the new 'Wild Tribe' area was the place to explore home made crafts, green living and live shows.

A vintage fun fair added some nostalgia for the the parents - the swing boats and helter skelter were popular with all ages queuing to ride!

Food options on site was vast and really did cater for all - we found the farmers market area to be the most economical of food options.

Camp Bestival curators Josie and Rob da Bank say:
“We’re really proud to unveil two of the world’s biggest party starters in their own fields - Nile and Chic go back a long way with us and they’re going to have everyone dancing at Lulworth Castle. BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac is one of the UK’s best DJs, tastemakers and a mama to boot so we know she’s going to press all the right buttons. Josie and I really do strive to make Camp Bestival not only the best family festival out there but also the ultimate way to kick off your summer holidays. This year we’ve got some whacking great headliners and loads of amazing family activities, we will be prioritising our teens to keep ‘em happy with a new screen free area avoiding technology – The Wild Tribe. See you in the fields X”

The acts join the out-of-this-world line-up alongside Jess Glynne (Friday), The Human League (Friday), Sister Sledge, Sara Cox, Biq Shaq, Vengaboys, East 17 and many more, promising a weekender like no other. For the 90s kids, Spice Girl Melanie C, will bring the girl power with her mega mixtape.

Raving isn’t just for adults, the kids can also get down and dance with a set from Big Fish Little Fish and more acts including Mr Tumble, Mister Makes & The Shapes and CBBC favourites Sam & Mark.

As well as mighty music and entertainment for all the family, Camp Bestival will bring more momentous magic with an array mouth-watering food offerings, exciting workshops and fun for the little ones, including Wild Tribe, a brand-new kid’s area for 2019. Powered entirely by solar and alternative technology, the area will bring kids down to earth with screen-free activities such as bush craft, mud slides and drumming circles.

But that’s not all, festi-goers should watch this space as more out-of-this-world acts, DJs and heroic entertainment will be revealed before the Camp Bestival crew are go! For more information and to stay in the loop of our latest announcements, please head to campbestival.net

We explore the thoughts of artists and music sharing. In today's digital age, discovering new music has become more accessible than ever due to online platforms like Spotify, SoundCloud, and download services such as Beatport. While traditional methods of exploring music, such as visiting record shops, have diminished in popularity, the process of musical exploration remains significant and enriching, especially when one encounters a standout track. For performing artists, the quest for fresh music is a continuous endeavor, often regarded as equally important as the performance itself. This raises an interesting question: is it appropriate for artists to keep the details of their music sources confidential? This topic invites further discussion from some of the South West DJs and producers on the nature of music discovery in the modern landscape.
