We explore the thoughts of artists and music sharing. In today's digital age, discovering new music has become more accessible than ever due to online platforms like Spotify, SoundCloud, and download services such as Beatport. While traditional methods of exploring music, such as visiting record shops, have diminished in popularity, the process of musical exploration remains significant and enriching, especially when one encounters a standout track. For performing artists, the quest for fresh music is a continuous endeavor, often regarded as equally important as the performance itself. This raises an interesting question: is it appropriate for artists to keep the details of their music sources confidential? This topic invites further discussion from some of the South West DJs and producers on the nature of music discovery in the modern landscape.

I am really hoping the situation will be resolved by that time and we can dance again.

Hi Will (aka Tingerz), please introduce yourself to those unfamiliar with your DJ life.

I am a South West based House music DJ and learning producer, I made a name for myself at Chy Bar in Newquay and then started playing other gigs around Newquay and also Cornwall. I have been DJing for almost 6 years and music has always been my passion from a very young age.

Talk us through how you filled your time during the lockdown.

I spent most of my previous lockdown keeping active and honing my skills. I was doing a lot of running, cycling, and weightlifting. I was also doing a fair amount of DJ live streams and practicing my production skills. I was still doing my level 2 music production course when the lockdown was put into place so I studied a fair bit too.

What events should you have played this year?

I had loads of little gigs signed up for this summer (2020) at venues in Newquay, Bodmin, Wadebridge and Mawgan Porth - unfortunately all were cancelled due to COVID-19.

What's planned for 2021?

Me and my good friend Jez Moore from Headroom Grooves, have been fortunate enough to get booked for Amsterdam Spring Break Festival 2021 - Currently the only thing I have booked for next year. I am really hoping the situation will be resolved by that time and we can dance again.

I love to throw accapellas into my mixes and do lots of loops, bringing energy to my sets.

Describe your DJ style.

My DJ style can vary depending on time, location and crowd. But in an ideal world I like to play heavy 4x4 house beats whilst using occasional classic feel good tracks and accapellas. I love to throw accapellas into my mixes and do lots of loops, bringing energy to my sets.

I am inspired by many artists as music has always been so big for me. Patrick Topping and Joseph Capriati, for me, play really exciting sets with fresh tunes that no one has ever heard of before. But my all time favourite artist has to be Dr. Dre.

Talk us through your podcast tune selection.

I picked these tunes because they were simply tunes I was vibing off that day. This mix is a bit tamer than I would usually go for, but I was going for a different vibe. I hope you enjoy listening the same as I did making it.
