Artist Interview

I have my first ever vinyl release at the end of the month.

Please introduce yourself to those unfamiliar with your DJ sound.

Hello my name is Myles aka IOWLA. I've had various aliases over the years and I've pretty much had my fingers in most genre pies but I'm mostly known for playing 140 Breaks & Dubstep.

What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?

Highlights are defiantly starting a new events company called "INK" with my good friend Nathan which is based in Porthtowan. We have just bought our own sound system for it and I couldn't be happier with how it's going. We are really enjoying bringing new acts in to play and letting them run free with what ever they want to play, it's really wholesome and I feel like it gives people a chance to do their thing.

I've also released some amazing music from other artists on my label "Different Type Records".

So lots coming up in the future (said no Dj ever). I have my first ever vinyl release at the end of the month. The tracks were written with a guy in Malta Called Volume A and one of the tracks is featuring Rakjay on vocals.

I've also got an Ep coming out on Dread Or Dead Records and one of the tracks is featuring Grim Sickers on vocals, there's also a remix from Teffa which I'm absolutely jumping about.

I'm really into my Electro as well so it would be rude to not throw some in there.

Tell us something positive to inspire future artists.

Everything you do is a legacy to the next generation, don't ever stop and be humble.

What artists have inspired your DJ style?

It's hard to say really because I play so much different music, I'm a huge fan of Kercha, Criso, Kwizma, Biome but as far as technical ability i'd have to say Youngster, the guy blows the roof off the place every time.

Talk us through your podcast mix track selection.

It's hard to cram everything into 60 minutes, while making sure it's mixed properly but I feel like this is a good selection of what I'm into at the minute.

The 1st half is some chilled / deep stuff that we've been playing at INK recently and there's some of my own music in there too. I'm really into my Electro as well so it would be rude to not throw some in there.

The 2nd half of the mix is pretty much my set from the Masked Ball this year on the Durty Disco stage and the last track is a beautiful liquid Drum & Bass track I came across recently.

We explore the thoughts of artists and music sharing. In today's digital age, discovering new music has become more accessible than ever due to online platforms like Spotify, SoundCloud, and download services such as Beatport. While traditional methods of exploring music, such as visiting record shops, have diminished in popularity, the process of musical exploration remains significant and enriching, especially when one encounters a standout track. For performing artists, the quest for fresh music is a continuous endeavor, often regarded as equally important as the performance itself. This raises an interesting question: is it appropriate for artists to keep the details of their music sources confidential? This topic invites further discussion from some of the South West DJs and producers on the nature of music discovery in the modern landscape.
