Synchroniz3 Volume 1
October 25th 2019 | Heavy T Club, Carlyon Bay
We catch up with an exciting new event series under the branding of Synchroniz3 who are creating an immersive event at the Heavy T Club, Carlyon Bay, St Austell with projection artists, DJs and solid techno.
Hello, can you introduce yourself for those not familiar with Sychroniz3.
Hi, yes, we’re a collective of experienced festival organisers, artists and DJ’s that live in Cornwall, but have worked all over the UK and Europe. I got the initial idea from The Chemical Brothers concert at Eden this summer and thought why can’t we do something with the same vibe, but indoors? I then had a brief chat to a few of my friends in the business and Synchroniz3 was born. We will have professional projection artists, sound systems, and respected DJ’s playing funky stuff all the way through to techno, who have given their time to create this fundraiser.
Talk us through the events you have supported and any stand out events.
There have been so many for us all individually, it’s hard to say. Adrian T has had the honour of supporting Craig Charles recently and playing at The Great Estate. Jinal has been instrumental in so many major festivals in the South West in the last 20 years, including Glastonbury and The Masked Ball, be that as a DJ, promoter or producer. A moment in time for Dan Ray was playing at one of the first Cultural Vibes nights in Plymouth in the mid 90s. And for me, Poindexter, I have to say helping to create the original techno scene in Cornwall back in the late 80s, early 90s is one of my highlights. The Pulse events that were held on the south coast of Cornwall filled a club on a Monday night with over 400 people. During these times I worked alongside greats such as Aphex Twin and the late Paul Guntrip from The Wag Nightclub in London.
On our production team we have Si, Projection Manager, from Lumatec Productions who has worked with The Orb and at Boomtown Fair with his projection mapping, VJing and stage design. XYZ Visual Architects are also on board, who are using an innovative idea involving a projection mapped liquid light show, interlaced with digital effects working in collaboration with Si to help create a special show for the night. They have worked with a variety of promoters over the last 8 years, with one of their most recent productions being used at Orbital Gathering. Guy, who runs Blitz Lazer and Décor, has an engineer’s mind, always comes up with great ideas and will be helping us ‘set the stage’ for our event. He used to be involved in many club nights in Cornwall, including Full Contact at the Cornwall Coliseum.
"Our first event is for Tanya’s Courage Trust, and the hope is this will become a regular event during the winter months, with a different charity as the focus each time."
What is planned for the next 12 months?
We were considering what to do event-wise out of the festival season and decided that we’d like to raise some money for a local charity, while producing a festival-like nightclub experience in Cornwall. Our first event is for Tanya’s Courage Trust, and the hope is this will become a regular event during the winter months, with a different charity as the focus each time.
How much behind the scenes work goes into your installations?
There’s been a lot of work going into the bespoke content of our event. With our lighting, design and projection experts they have been working hard to fulfil the requirements of the space we have chosen. A lot of people have given their free time to create this new charity event, that will hopefully impress everyone.
