We explore the thoughts of artists and music sharing. In today's digital age, discovering new music has become more accessible than ever due to online platforms like Spotify, SoundCloud, and download services such as Beatport. While traditional methods of exploring music, such as visiting record shops, have diminished in popularity, the process of musical exploration remains significant and enriching, especially when one encounters a standout track. For performing artists, the quest for fresh music is a continuous endeavor, often regarded as equally important as the performance itself. This raises an interesting question: is it appropriate for artists to keep the details of their music sources confidential? This topic invites further discussion from some of the South West DJs and producers on the nature of music discovery in the modern landscape.

Tommie Quick Autumn House Mix

Episode 20/19 | Tommie Quick | Podcast Mixes

A poster for podcast mixes tommie quick episode 20/19

One of the South West's leading dance music DJs, Tommie Quick, joins us for an hour long mix of two halves. The first half of his mix is what he describes as house groovers under his 'Tom Pariah' alias and second half features a harder edged vibe that Tommie is known for.

Hi Tommie, great to have you back for a podcast mix. For those not familiar, can you introduce yourself.
Thanks for having me, it’s good to be back. I guess I could sum myself up asa DJ and Producer from the South West, originally from Hayle in Cornwall where I grew up although I now live in Plymouth. I’ve been DJing in clubs since I was 16 which was over 20 year ago now! I play a multitude of genres but I am best known for dance music where I’ve played and been resident at some of the biggest brands for dance in the South West including the Dance Academy and Tranzaction. Today I still have a bit of split musical personality, you can catch me playing Trance and harder edged sounds at nights such as Cohesion and Publand, but I also play House and Dance Anthems at a variety of venues across the South west.

How has 2019 shaped up for you so far?
It’s been busy and varied but overall a lot of fun. My production focus has definitely shifted more towards my house sound, with they first release under my Tom Pariah guise coming out on Rhythm Control records a few months ago.

"I describe my sound as diverse and energetic and I mix across a spectrum of genres from house, trance, techno, hard dance and anything in between."

What has been your stand out gig of the year?
There have been a few, but the one that stands out above the rest would be playing the BBC Introducing Stage at Looe Live. It was my first experience of DJing at a silent disco and it was a lot of fun, great setting and energetic crowd.

What is next for you?

I’ve got a couple of new releases cooking in the studio which should be ready in the next few months, probably the start of 2020. Just before writing this I’ve sorted my tracks for my first Tom Pariah gig in Plymouth, playing house at Hanging Gardens with Jess Bays from the epic Defected label. Later this month I’m playing the Publand Halloween special with Andy Whitby and then next month Tranzaction is hitting Weston Super Mare, bringing Judge Jules to the town for a night of classics. There may even be a plan for Tranzaction to return to Cornwall in the near future, or maybe I just made that up?...
Describe your DJ sound?
I describe my sound as diverse and energetic and I mix across a spectrum of genres from house, trance, techno, hard dance and anything in between. Music is either good or bad in my book, I just lay it down and have fun.

Talk us through your podcast track selection.
I wasn’t sure how to take this one, steer more toward my Tom Pariah sound or kick out something harder that I’m more well known for. I’ve settled for a mixture of both. The first half an hour is a selection of house groovers and for the second half I up the tempo and the dirt with a harder edged vibe.
