The Great Estate Unveils Mexican Wrestling, Victorian Sports Day & A Grand Dining Experience In The Manor House

Celebrating its third year, Cornwall’s most rambunctious garden fête will return to the blossoming grounds of Scorrier House for three days of mystical mayhem and monumental madness. Combining headline artists, cabaret, burlesque, Mexican wrestling and Victorian-themed sporting events, The Great Estate is a dynamic fusion of music, art and food. Enriched with eccentric surprises and show-stopping performances, this unique festival takes place from Friday 31st May – Sunday 2ndJune 2019.

Nestled within wild meadows and ancient woodland, The Great Estate extends its portfolio of infamous shenanigans for 2019. Unveiling a series of weird and wonderful happenings, the festival guest list is overflowing with musicians, dancers, wrestlers, award-winning chefs and vintage car owners.
Adding a touch of high-octane mayhem to this year’s event is Bethnal Green’s very own Lucha Britannia. Donning vibrant spandex and colourful masks, this English lucha-libre style professional wrestling will bring an undoubtedly raucous show to The Great Estate. Famed for training a wide selection of leading international superstars, the English-Mexican display promises nail-biting aerial manoeuvres, dramatic storytelling and flamboyant physical theatre. Be prepared, this is Mexican Wrestling with an exciting twist.

Showcasing sportsmanship and athletic flair, The Great Estate’s official Victorian Sports Day will host a variety of school-inspired games for all the family to enjoy. From sack races and tug of war tournaments to croquet and pass the slipper, the programme of events will require strength, speed and agility. Win or lose, this is a battle of the best and a race to victory.

To mark the festival’s third anniversary, The Great Estate invites a collection of video mapping artists to bring Scorrier House to life with a series of vibrant light displays. Transforming the stately home with unforgettable and mesmerising visual shows, The Grand Cinematic Experience will showcase artist’s works across the festival weekend.

For those with a passion for classic and vintage vehicles, The Great Estate will host a Vintage Car Show on Sunday 2nd June. Highlighted by the picturesque backdrop of The Scorrier Estate, car enthusiasts can soak up the roar of engines and sight of beautiful bodywork.

New for 2019, Wild Wine Club will take over the spectacular dining hall of Scorrier House on Saturday 1st June for a four-course Portuguese banquet to remember. SommelierDebbie Warner will be joined by Adam Banks, head chef, Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen Cornwall for The Grand Dining Experience that will blend mouth-watering dishes with a menu of carefully selected wines.

Wild Wine Club’s sell-out long table feasts in the derelict horse shed will also return for the third year with a Mediterranean menu fit for a king. Popping up on Friday 31st May and Sunday 2nd June, the gastronomic adventures will welcome Natasha Osborne, St Ives based private chef and fisherman’s daughter, and Steve Knowles, chef patron, The Old Custom House in Padstow.

The Great Estate’s resident tattooists return for the third year to ink guests within the four walls of the pop-up tattoo parlour. More commonly referred to as Captain Inkus Rum & Tattoo Parlour by festival organisers, this updated studio will serve refreshing beverages, issue permanent keepsakes and play the best in hard rock.

In music news, The Great Estate is excited to reveal Elvana , an Elvis-fronted Nirvana tribute band hailing from Newcastle-upon-Tyne. With an uncanny ability to tear through Nirvana’s catalogue of hits whilst splicing in sections of Elvis’s finest moments, this is rock and roll meets grunge. Other acts on this year’s bill include Town of Cats, Hip-Hop Karaoke and Crinkle Cuts. More headline acts and artists still to be announced.
Redesigned and updated venues will fill the gardens of The Great Estate in 2019 including the return of The Whispering Woods with poetry sessions by day and cosy fireside acoustic sessions by night, plus The Secret Gin Garden, which will host the official festival opening party with Back Beat Sound System and classical musical sessions. Other favourite areas scheduled to pop up in the grounds of the manor house include Stage on the Green - Home to The Great Estate’s headline artists and main stage performers; Madame Wong’s House of Wrong - A blend of glitz, glamour, comedy, tassels and tease; Woodland Silent Disco - Nestled within a secret forest glade this hidden party will see DJ’s battle it out spinning the best in pop, rock and club classics; The Hokey Cokey Parlour - From circus workshops to a skate ramp, this tent provides fun and frolics for all the family; and The Sanctuary - offering head-to-toe pampering, the dedicated wellness area will revive and rejuvenate party-goers.

Weekend Camping Tickets are currently on sale priced from £75.00 (plus £4.50 booking fee). Glamping options with bell tents and hobbit huts are also available. Please note The Great Estate operates a tiered ticket system with prices changing over time. An allocation of tickets is reserved for each tier, this will close when the allocation of tickets is sold out. For festival guests wanting to set up camp early and party the night away with Back Beat Sound System, this year’s event will open its gates to tents, campervans, caravans and motorhomes on Thursday 30th May. Upgrade Festival Camping Tickets priced at £25 (plus £2.50 booking fee) must be purchased in advance from The Great Estate website.
Tickets for Wild Wine Club are priced from £39.50 and are available online from www.wildwineclub.co.uk. Please note, diners will also need to purchase a festival ticket separately.

The Great Estate is an independent, three-day music festival taking place over the weekend of 31st May – 2nd June 2019 in the prestigious grounds of Scorrier House.
