We explore the thoughts of artists and music sharing. In today's digital age, discovering new music has become more accessible than ever due to online platforms like Spotify, SoundCloud, and download services such as Beatport. While traditional methods of exploring music, such as visiting record shops, have diminished in popularity, the process of musical exploration remains significant and enriching, especially when one encounters a standout track. For performing artists, the quest for fresh music is a continuous endeavor, often regarded as equally important as the performance itself. This raises an interesting question: is it appropriate for artists to keep the details of their music sources confidential? This topic invites further discussion from some of the South West DJs and producers on the nature of music discovery in the modern landscape.

Combining headline artists, cabaret, burlesque, Mexican wrestling and Victorian-themed sporting events, The Great Estate is a dynamic fusion of music, art and food. Nestled within wild meadows and ancient woodland, The Great Estate extends its portfolio of infamous shenanigans for 2019. Unveiling a series of weird and wonderful happenings, the festival guest list is overflowing with musicians, dancers, wrestlers, award-winning chefs and vintage car owners.
Adding a touch of high-octane mayhem to this year’s event is Bethnal Green’s very own Lucha Britannia. Donning vibrant spandex and colourful masks, this English lucha-libre style professional wrestling will bring an undoubtedly raucous show to The Great Estate. Famed for training a wide selection of leading international superstars, the English-Mexican display promises nail-biting aerial manoeuvres, dramatic storytelling and flamboyant physical theatre. Be prepared, this is Mexican Wrestling with an exciting twist.

Showcasing sportsmanship and athletic flair, The Great Estate’s official Victorian Sports Day will host a variety of school-inspired games for all the family to enjoy. From sack races and tug of war tournaments to croquet and pass the slipper, the programme of events will require strength, speed and agility. Win or lose, this is a battle of the best and a race to victory.

To mark the festival’s third anniversary, The Great Estate invites a collection of video mapping artists to bring Scorrier House to life with a series of vibrant light displays. SommelierDebbie Warner will be joined by Adam Banks, head chef, Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen Cornwall for The Grand Dining Experience that will blend mouth-watering dishes with a menu of carefully selected wines.

Wild Wine Club’s sell-out long table feasts in the derelict horse shed will also return for the third year with a Mediterranean menu fit for a king. Popping up on Friday 31st May and Sunday 2nd June, the gastronomic adventures will welcome Natasha Osborne, St Ives based private chef and fisherman’s daughter, and Steve Knowles, chef patron, The Old Custom House in Padstow.

The Great Estate’s resident tattooists return for the third year to ink guests within the four walls of the pop-up tattoo parlour. More commonly referred to as Captain Inkus Rum & Tattoo Parlour by festival organisers, this updated studio will serve refreshing beverages, issue permanent keepsakes and play the best in hard rock.

In music news, The Great Estate is excited to reveal Elvana , an Elvis-fronted Nirvana tribute band hailing from Newcastle-upon-Tyne. With an uncanny ability to tear through Nirvana’s catalogue of hits whilst splicing in sections of Elvis’s finest moments, this is rock and roll meets grunge. Other acts on this year’s bill include Town of Cats, Hip-Hop Karaoke and Crinkle Cuts. More headline acts and artists still to be announced.
Redesigned and updated venues will fill the gardens of The Great Estate in 2019 including the return of The Whispering Woods with poetry sessions by day and cosy fireside acoustic sessions by night, plus The Secret Gin Garden, which will host the official festival opening party with Back Beat Sound System and classical musical sessions.
