We explore the thoughts of artists and music sharing. In today's digital age, discovering new music has become more accessible than ever due to online platforms like Spotify, SoundCloud, and download services such as Beatport. While traditional methods of exploring music, such as visiting record shops, have diminished in popularity, the process of musical exploration remains significant and enriching, especially when one encounters a standout track. For performing artists, the quest for fresh music is a continuous endeavor, often regarded as equally important as the performance itself. This raises an interesting question: is it appropriate for artists to keep the details of their music sources confidential? This topic invites further discussion from some of the South West DJs and producers on the nature of music discovery in the modern landscape.

...I’m known for my residencies on the global podcast platform Melodic Beats...

Please introduce yourself to those unfamiliar with your DJ life.

Hi! Many of your older listeners may remember me from my residencies at the Dance Academy and Candy along with playing nights at Scream, United, The Monastery, Sound Factory and many other venues across the South West throughout the 90’s.

Now more then ever we all need to be able to dance and let our hair down.

Describe your DJ sound.

I play across the Progressive, Melodic House, Melodic Techno, Techno and Breaks Genres with my sets being a journey.

What is your view on how the live music and nightlife scene has been shaped since the Covid lockdowns?

It's tough out there at the moment for everyone - purse strings are being tightened due to the cost of living crisis and it is hitting events, bars and clubs. There's been a lot of choice since we’ve come out of the pandemic with festivals, various live events and nights fighting for people's dollar which in turn is diluting foot fall. Some events do well and some do not - even with great line ups.

I believe it is key now more then ever to support local talent and build a loyal fan base, based on the music, vibe and quality of your night or event and not rely on a big name draw. By doing this you can keep the cost of tickets/door entry down and hopefully deliver a packed night for all to enjoy.

Bars, events and clubs all really need our support as it is a very bleak time for them with increases in running costs and people choosing to stay in and save money. If we don’t support our local scene there will not be one there to come back to when times get better. Now more then ever we all need to be able to dance and let our hair down. Music is a great uniter and crosses ethnic and social boundaries bringing people together. With so much division out there at present we could all do with a bit of that.

Talk us through your podcast mix track selection.

My mix is more pumping than my last for you. A journey through future funk, progressive house, breaks and melodic techno. It has a sneak peak of some future releases from our label Melodic Beats Recordings and a remix from myself of a classic tune coming out at some point in 2023. I hope you enjoy it and it puts a smile on your face and gets your feet tapping. Turn it up loud.
