Hi, please introduce yourself to those unfamiliar with your work.
Hey. Vincent Vega A.K.A Louis Samurai here. I have been a DJ/Turntablist since the early 1990’s. I started out in the rave days playing hardcore under the rather 'of it’s time' guise of DJ Cutting Edge … I know lol! Nowadays i am a long time resident DJ for Noise Pollution events and also a member of the dub, funk, breaks and dnb band ‘Innereyefull’. I host my own weekly radio show (The Perfect Pitch Show) every Saturday over on NCB Radio.
How have you utilised the 2020/21 lockdowns?
During lockdown i finished a degree in Creative Music Technology and made a bunch of turntablism short videos which incorporate cuts, scratches and beat juggles. I chose to film the videos in various locations at home with the help of my partner who is a filmmaker. I also hosted a series of genre themed all vinyl livestreams which was a lot of fun! Also during lockdown I produced and released my first E.P.
I would describe my DJ style as authentic and much practiced free style.
Describe your DJ style.
I have always tried to focus on the art form of the DJ/Turntablist as opposed to getting bogged down in the search for the perfect genre. There are so many good tunes that i literally love in the genres of house music, techno and hardcore/jungle/dnb that i have never been able to pick an overall favourite! They are all brilliant for different reasons and each one very much has it’s own place ... although originally of course they all came from the same place, rave.
Before the rave days i listened to a lot of hip hop/electro and hip house. I think it is this which made me have an interest in DJing/Turntablsim (vinyl scratches etc) even before electronic dance music changed the world as we know it. I am now in the happy situation of being as confident on vinyl decks as i am cdj’s or controllers etc. It’s like the genres can get better or worse but the DJ can only get better mind set and it is that which has kept me entertained along with wicked wicked crowds after all these years. I would describe my DJ style as authentic and much practiced free style.
Talk us through your podcast mix track selection.
With the Halloween Masked Ball coming up (I will be playing on the Noise Pollution stage) and so many great tunes released during lockdown it seemed only right to drop a jungle/dnb set for Little South which incorporates tracks released during this insane time. Featuring fire from Born On Road, Chopstick Dubplate and Quickfix Recordings to name but a few!
You can catch ‘Innereyefull’ supporting the Dub Pistols, 26th November, Falmouth Pavilion.
