We explore the thoughts of artists and music sharing. In today's digital age, discovering new music has become more accessible than ever due to online platforms like Spotify, SoundCloud, and download services such as Beatport. While traditional methods of exploring music, such as visiting record shops, have diminished in popularity, the process of musical exploration remains significant and enriching, especially when one encounters a standout track. For performing artists, the quest for fresh music is a continuous endeavor, often regarded as equally important as the performance itself. This raises an interesting question: is it appropriate for artists to keep the details of their music sources confidential? This topic invites further discussion from some of the South West DJs and producers on the nature of music discovery in the modern landscape.

Culture Seventy Six Present Dr Packer & Michael Gray In Newquay

July 31st 2020 | Berties, Newquay

Culture Seventy Six is a one-off gig taking place in July 2020 with house and disco headliners Dr Packer and Michael Gray.

A sign that says culture seventy six on it

Event info

Culture Seventy Six launches in Newquay with international line-up that includes Dr Packer, Ian Ossia and Michael Grey.

On the surface Culture Seventy Six is somewhere between disco and boogie, but it would be a sad injustice to stop digging there, go deeper and you’ll also find the core elements of soul and funk as part of the musically atheistic landscape of this burgeoning company. C76 has been created out of it’s influence and love of disco from it’s most memorable year, and with the huge resurgence of disco, soul and funk infused music, the people behind this unique brand felt it was time to bring some of the current scenes playmakers to this beautiful corner of England.
The summer of 2020 in Cornwall will experience a unique one off event staged in a beautiful hotel location, which looks out over the golden sand drench Fistral Beach in sunny Newquay. On Friday 31st July. The South West leg of the Downtown Disco UK & European Tour is excusive to C76 featuring an all star line up including Dr Packer of Glitterbox and Salsoul Records fame, Michael Gray of disco house stalwarts Full Intention and Ian Ossia of Downtown Disco, Big Love and Masterworks Music with support from Enyon of Plaizir Muzic and Modern Disco, MODIR Disco Hustle (Culture 76) plus guests.
The event will feature two rooms of glorious sound, lighting, projections and décor with further production treats all carefully chosen to compliment the music and atmosphere in each space. These include a vintage fashion show in partnership with El Hobo. You will experience something truly inclusive and unique amongst like-minded music lovers.

The event will run from 8pm through to 4am (6am licence being considered) with First Tier Tickets priced at £15, and if you require a room in the hotel itself then move fast as specially discounted rooms are limited due to the time of year.

Line Up

Dr Packer
Much more than simple re-edits, Dr Packer uses all the skills he learned producing completely original music to rework disco, soul and funk from the extensive catalogue he's built up as a vinyl collector. “I'm originally from Northampton,” he says, not that you could tell from the west Australian accent he's acquired. “I tend to buy big when I go back there, especially in London. I'd buy a truck load of records then ship them all back.”
Michael Gray
Michael Gray is an accomplished producer, DJ and remixer that has enjoyed Grammy nominated success alongside Jon Pearn as world renowned production and remix duo Full Intention. As such his name is forever forged into the annals of dance music history, and more recently his solo productions, remixes and DJing are the things that have continued to keep him very much in demand around the globe. Over the years collaborations have also seen Michael work with Marco Lys, Danism, Mark Knight, Richard Dinsdale and Jon Pearn and currently the man is heading up his own label Sultra Recordings with artists such as A*M*E, Chrom3 and Ny.
Ian Ossia
Ian’s geek like genius has driven him to remain at the cutting edge of technology – which has, in turn, opened up new creative possibilities. He remains fiercely loyal to the ethics of true mixing which helps him to push the limits of digital technology, but at the heart of it all still upholds the most fundamental and unpretentious aspects of djing – simply playing the right tunes in the right sequence… and feeling, understanding and responding to a crowd in a way that unites them and lifts them to heady heights.
Enyon
For the last 4 years I have reverted back to my roots, re-establishing myself as a producer and DJ.. I have ventured back to what I grew up on, disco, boogie with oodles of soul!! However, I cannot ignore my house music blood and my DJ sets, own and others productions are a fusion of all.
