We are pleased to introduce a new artist who specialises in the intersection of high tempo tech house and techno music. Mazarus has been developing her DJing skills over the past three years, during which time she has performed at numerous events and shared lineups with established artists across the South West of England. This podcast mix showcases her current punchy tech house sound which we love!
Please introduce yourself to those unfamiliar with your DJ sound.
Hey, I’m Mazarus!

I’ve been Dj-ing for nearly 3 years now. It all started as just an interest in wanting to learn so I could play a set for my friend's birthday. I had no idea that what I’ve done to date would feel so surreal!
I played for 10 lessons from a female DJ (A for Alpha) in Bristol, and managed to pull a 1 hour set together, I practiced the set and I marked all my tracks with cues so I wouldn't forget what to do, and at that point I was still playing on sync as I had yet to get fully to grips with beat matching. Once I’d played the set, I thought that was it, mission complete!
Since then, I’ve slowly developed my style and have found a love for heavy and dirty tech house that has an off beat bounce to it, usually with the drums bouncing against the thick basslines! That sweet spot between higher tempo tech house and the start of techno is exactly where I like to sit.
Having looked back over the last 3 years for this podcast, I can’t believe the opportunities I’ve had and I can honestly say that being brave enough to get behind the decks and learn is one of the biggest and most enjoyable things I’ve ever done.
Tell us something positive to inspire future artists.
When you manage to get your first opportunity to play, don’t let nerves get the better of you! Say yes before you have time to think about it. I love the feeling that DJ-ing gives me and the best feeling of all is playing out to a crowd. It’s so damn scary the first few times you do it and you will make mistakes but it’s all ok!
Loads of DJ’s will all confess to making the same mistakes, I’ve managed to stop the wrong deck mid performance, it’s easily done ;)
What artists have inspired your DJ style?
One of the earliest influences is Mark Knight, and I’ve grown to love the Toolroom label and a lot of the artists that have come from it. Meeting and playing alongside Loz was such a fab win for me.
Another of my absolute favourites is Eats Everything, a fellow Gloucestershire DJ, his heavier style is one I really enjoy.
Talk us through your podcast mix track selection.
This mix for me is a journey from my starting point. I've included some of the first tracks I purchased to help me practice at home after my lessons. Influenced by Mark Knight and Toolroom the mix starts with some uplifting euphoric house tracks.
Continuing from there I included a number of vocal bouncy remix house tracks with familiar lyrics, spanning a couple of decades. Finishing off the set I take it to my signature punchier tech house sound, with a classic Dominator remix closing off the set. I hope you enjoy listening, you can hear more on my
