Pink Wig 'Breastival' 10th Anniversary

August 9th 2019 | The Moor, Falmouth

The team behind Falmouth's Pink Wig events are preparing to celebrate their 10th anniversary on Friday 9th August 2019. The theme this year is aptly named 'Breastival'. Crowds of pink wig wearing ladies will march through Falmouth with the aim to have fun whilst standing together to raise as much money for Cornwall Breast Care teamand Breast Cancer Care. The event starts at 1830 hours on Falmouth Moor and will make it's way to the Event Square marquee where the Pink Wig party will to the sounds of DJ Valentino and live band 'The Strutts'.

Pink Wig say:
Pink Wig Ladies night started in 2009 when the founder Sally Hicks-Wood was diagnosed with stage 3, HER2 positive breast cancer.
Sally’s closest friends wanted to wish her well with her upcoming cancer treatment and decided a ‘girls night out’ was needed. As a laugh everyone wore a pink wig, we were asked what we were doing and people were offering money thinking that we were collecting for charity - of course we didn’t take it.

This made Sally think and a year later after her treatment she asked if we would all go out again, invite more friends and wear the pink wigs but collect for a charity - about 100 of us went out and did just that and raised £1000 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer (now known as Breast Cancer Now).

The girls night out has grown and grown and in 2012 the pink wig night out became too big for a pub crawl and we linked with Southwest Bars and Events and Falmouth Town Council and began Falmouth Week with a pink wig parade led by the infamous Falmouth Marine Band along with Betty Stoggs and a night of partying in the Falmouth Week Marquee.

"2019 is our 10th anniversary and to date we have raised £110,000 for our chosen beneficiaries, something we are extremely proud of!"

Sadly our founder Sally lost her cancer battle in 2015 but the small committee of 5 have vowed that as long as we continue to get the support - we will continue to provide the event raising as much as we can for the Cornwall Breast Care team and Breast Cancer Now.

We’ve often been asked why we do not have men at the night (apart from our helpers who we could not manage without) - our reason is simple, this was a girls night out wishing a friend well and that is how we will continue it!

2019 is our 10th anniversary and to date we have raised £110,000 for our chosen beneficiaries, something we are extremely proud of!
This year the theme is a ‘Breastival Festival’ and there will be the parade leaving the Moor to the Events Square at 6:30pm. Once in the Marquee the pink wig resident DJ, Nate Valentino will welcome the ladies, followed by Zumba warm up with Embrace Dance Fitness and live band will once again be The Strutts.

The pink wig team provide 2 bars: prosecco and cocktails with all proceeds going straight to the cause and there is the pink wig raffle that has some fabulous prizes!

2019 has seen us sell out 3 months before the event and this is with an increased capacity to 1200 Ladies! This is our 3rd sell out with the event growing year on year, all of us at Pink Wig Events continue to be humbled by all the support shown by local businesses and indeed our Pink Wiggers!

We explore the thoughts of artists and music sharing. In today's digital age, discovering new music has become more accessible than ever due to online platforms like Spotify, SoundCloud, and download services such as Beatport. While traditional methods of exploring music, such as visiting record shops, have diminished in popularity, the process of musical exploration remains significant and enriching, especially when one encounters a standout track. For performing artists, the quest for fresh music is a continuous endeavor, often regarded as equally important as the performance itself. This raises an interesting question: is it appropriate for artists to keep the details of their music sources confidential? This topic invites further discussion from some of the South West DJs and producers on the nature of music discovery in the modern landscape.
