Tommie Quick delivers a banging podcast mix crammed full of what he describes nostalgic and future bangers. This mix is the perfect soundtrack to get you revved up for a night out!
Hi, Please introduce yourself to those unfamiliar with your DJ life.
Hey, I’m a DJ and producer from the South West, originally from Hayle in Cornwall but I moved to Plymouth for Uni and never looked back. I’ve been in the South West Dance Scene for years now (I’m getting on a bit now) but I’m still as passionate about it as the day I put my first vinyl on the turntable.
Over the years I’ve played in some of the South Wests biggest clubs and clubnights, including Eyecon at the Dance Academy and Tranzaction at L2 where I was resident for a number of years. Today you’ll still catch me kicking out a variety of genres for some epic brands and clubs including Cohesion, The Depo, Hard Energy and more.
Describe your DJ sound.
I’ve always been very musically diverse, I grew up loving DJing as an art, and you can enjoy doing that on many levels with any genre. While I have always focused on Dance Music, mainly House and Trance, you may see me playing more open format sets, 80’s, 90’s, you name it. DJing is about creating a party and making a vibe and I love doing that no matter what I play.
Tell us how you have kept busy during the last year or so of lockdowns.
My day job involves looking after all of the Retail IT for SPAR in the South West, therefore I was classed as a key worker so lockdown was pretty standard for me, just with more weeknight drinking and no dancefloors. If I wasn’t a key worker I’d probably have filled my time with more home schooling, Ableton and even more midweek drinking (god that second lockdown was a killer wasn’t it!!).
Talk us through this podcast episode and why you have chosen to include the tracks that have made the cut.
This one really took a turn I wasn’t expecting. I always look to build my mixes over the hour, so will usually start up with a chunkier house vibe and grow it from there. This is what I’ve done here, but I’ve thrown in a lot of reworked classic dance anthems so it’s turned into a bit of a blend of nostalgic and future bangers. I hope everyone enjoys.
