Enyon releases yet another slick track named 'Took A Promise' with layers of funk and sexy vocals courtesy of new girl on the block Beth Leopold. Remixes from G-Flash and True 2 Life head up a quality house music package.
Hi Si (Enyon), your new track is out today - can you talk us through what influenced this track?
Hey Little South, as always thanks for the support… So yeah, the next release on my own label is finally out today after an exclusive promo campaign on Traxsource, where it has done really well in not only the Soul/Funk Disco charts but also the Soulful House and Garage charts, pretty chuffed to be honest with top 20 placings for 2 mixes in the same top 100 chart, you don’t see that happen often!
So, originally the track in it’s raw form was recorded about 4 years ago and around the same time I was introduced to Beth and she was keen to do some work with me. This is the first track she has worked on but it never sounded this way originally, it was more of a deep soul house track. She came over to the studio for a day and she had the foundation words already, together we tweaked it a little more and then recorded. However, as it is with me and I’m sure other producers, I often hear something too much and do not feel it’s ready, shelve it and move onto the next track. Then at times I’ll go through the hard drive to hear unfinished work, this came up about 3 months ago and I instantly fell in love with Beth’s sound again so I started another mix with more of a soulful/disco vibe. This is what you hear now along with session work from a couple of other talented musicians and friends, Josh Williams (Guitar) and Tony King (Trumpet).
The dub is just a product of the original, I like to create grooves / fillers with the dubs. Stripping the original down and vibing. The spoken vocal was another exclusive little treat which I am chuffed with. Remixes are from G-Flash who is another of our artists who delivers a deeper vibe and then theres the True 2 Life remix which is a soulful house / garage thumper.
Your recent podcast mix for us was a disco treat - what events do you think are most suited to your style?
Yeah, I enjoyed doing that mix
for you guy’s and I guess it’s a little different to what you usually have featured which is the same for events down here in Cornwall really. Disco and boogie nights are very few from where i’m standing, but saying that I’m so busy in other areas of music that I have not been fully looking to be honest. Outside of a couple of nights I do myself as Enyon and our Modern Disco events there are not many others that I know of doing specialised disco / boogie nights, if there are please let me know! I’m starting a new monthly residency in Plymouth on 4th May at the Treasury, the night is called Disco Hustle and looks really exciting, plus I have a few things up and coming further up the line but in Cornwall not a lot more.
Where can we listen to more of your work?
So, if you want to listen to more of my work then just get onto most of the major and indie stores and streaming services, put in Enyon and you’ll find my work on other labels including the work on the Enyon Music label. Failing that jump on to my website ( www.enyondisko.com
) and everything is there production, sets and radio plus links to some free downloads of my re-edits of artists like Prince, Sister Sledge, Ingram, Ian Dury and more.
