We explore the thoughts of artists and music sharing. In today's digital age, discovering new music has become more accessible than ever due to online platforms like Spotify, SoundCloud, and download services such as Beatport. While traditional methods of exploring music, such as visiting record shops, have diminished in popularity, the process of musical exploration remains significant and enriching, especially when one encounters a standout track. For performing artists, the quest for fresh music is a continuous endeavor, often regarded as equally important as the performance itself. This raises an interesting question: is it appropriate for artists to keep the details of their music sources confidential? This topic invites further discussion from some of the South West DJs and producers on the nature of music discovery in the modern landscape.

Leroy Locked In DnB Mix

Episode 6/19 | Leroy | Podcast Mixes

A man wearing a white hoodie that says the north face

No stranger to the nightlife and UK festival scene, we welcome back Leroy who has stepped up at the eleventh hour with a solid DnB mix packed with solid rhythms and a nod to the late Keith Flint.

A few words from the artist
Hey Little South! Thanks for having me back to do a Podcast for you. I’ve had plenty going on since we last met, not all good though I’m afraid. Unfortunately I am about to undergo reconstructive knee surgery as a result of a football injury. This has meant I have had to literally stop in my tracks this year. As it’s gonna be a big op, I have tried to take positives from my situation, and have thrown myself into the world of production.

As a DJ for the last 20 plus years, it feels like starting again, and it’s a fantastic challenge for me right now. I have had to make a sensible decision this year and postpone Rave in the Cave due to the physical nature of setting up the party. We will return later in the year all bring well.

2019 is looking great gig wise so far for Cozzie Watt & myself, although we have only been able to commit to limited dates due to my knee injury. Shindig Festival again looks stellar this year, we are playing the infamous Tutti Frutti Bar alongside the likes of LTJ Bukem, Randall, Doc Scott, T>I & many more. We return to the Masked Ball again on the Lazer Shack Stage, which was a particular highlight for us last year as my man Tuskan had his rig pumping! Once I am fit and able again, we are looking at returning to some of the Festivals again, with Glastonbury high on the wish list as it is the 50th year Anniversary. All being well, we will return to the place of our Engagement last year!

Anyway, let’s talk music. This 1hr 15 minute mix was a one off run through of tunes both old and new that grabbed a spot in the running order. Having moved away from the more jump up end of the Drum & Bass Spectrum, I wanted to play some variety of rhythms that your listeners may not have heard before, and get them in the mix with tunes they would know.

As always I am grateful for supporting Artists who send me Dubs, Promos etc, in particular the following legends; Saxxon, Upgrade, T>I & Limited. If you know these guys, you know the respect they garner from the DNB community, so I feel honoured being able to share new music with my mixes. Setlist wise, I have started with a classic as a nod to the saddest news of 2019 so far, the loss of Keith Flint. Early selections are from Saxxon who is doing great stuff as always, interspersed with some minimal rollers and the odd classic. From there, it was upping the pace and bpm to keep the blood pumping. I particularly enjoyed some of the “big tune” mixes, such as Shot Down : The Elephant, as it feels like the rig is gonna overload! All credit to the producers of course. I added a tune at the end of the mix which is one of my new tinkerings. It’s nerve wracking doing so as you tend to be your own worst critic, but have a go and learn and grow. What’s the worst that can happen eh?

Anyway, catch you soon Little South, I hope you enjoy the mix!
Peace, Leroy!
