We explore the thoughts of artists and music sharing. In today's digital age, discovering new music has become more accessible than ever due to online platforms like Spotify, SoundCloud, and download services such as Beatport. While traditional methods of exploring music, such as visiting record shops, have diminished in popularity, the process of musical exploration remains significant and enriching, especially when one encounters a standout track. For performing artists, the quest for fresh music is a continuous endeavor, often regarded as equally important as the performance itself. This raises an interesting question: is it appropriate for artists to keep the details of their music sources confidential? This topic invites further discussion from some of the South West DJs and producers on the nature of music discovery in the modern landscape.

Miss Trixsta Debut DnB Mix

Episode 21/19 | Miss Trixsta | Podcast Mixes

A poster for miss trixsta episode 21/19

We are really pleased to have a brand new DJ, Miss Trixsta, taking part in our podcast mix series with a unique DnB session featuring tracks which she hopes will take you on a journey!

Hello Trix, please introduce yourself.

Hey! I’m Trix, aka Miss Trixsta. Firstly, Thank you for having me! I’ve been really excited to do an exclusive mix for you guys. I’m a Dj and Producer living in Newquay. I’m from Exeter, but moved to Newquay about 6 years ago. I’ve been listening to Drum and Bass since 2003 when I was 13/14 years old. I first heard it when a friend of a friend was mixing on his decks at a house party. I was instantly hooked, and brought a pair of belt drive turntables when I was 15. When I was 19, I bought a pair of Technic 2010's and the vinyl collection started to grow. Since then I have gone on to purchase CDJ’s and have set up a little home studio where I host live Dj sets and have a space to work on my own productions. I used to co-run some events in Exmouth 10 years ago with headliners such as Logan D, Harry Bizzle, Garry K and Presha, as well as playing alongside some of the biggest names in Drum and Bass in Cornwall when I had a 4 year residency down here. It was also a pleasure to be invited by Dj Brockie to play on two of his and MC Det’s events in London over the last few years at Fire nightclub and Scala. I currently study at dBs Music in Plymouth 2 days a week alongside working. I’m in year 2 of a 3 year degree, studying Electronic Music Production.

"I like to let the tunes breath in my mixes and let them roll together for a while. It annoys me when I hear a track in a mix I really like, but only for about 15 seconds and then it’s gone!"

What is your typical Dj style and genre?

I love all types and sub-genres of Drum and Bass. I play a variety, but I do find I get more drawn towards the deep and dark rollers in my sets and really love dark and heavy bass lines throughout my sets, so expect those dark vibes from me! I also love my liquid so you can be sure to find some deep and melodic liquid tracks within my mixes. I think the production within the DnB scene at the moment is really healthy. I’m getting lots of inspiration for my own productions. There’s some super talented local DnB producers too. Big shouts to you guys! Killing it. I like to let the tunes breath in my mixes and let them roll together for a while. It annoys me when I hear a track in a mix I really like, but only for about 15 seconds and then it’s gone!

How has 2019 shaped up so far?

2019 has been good to me so far and I’ve had some really exciting opportunities. I was invited to play on the award winning radio show, Rough Tempo in Essex at the start of the year. I was then invited up again, by someone else who has their own show who had watched my previous set. From this, I am excited to say I now have my own monthly slot on Saturday mornings on Rough Tempo! This has been an absolute dream of mine. Never in a million years did I ever think I’d have my own slot on Rough Tempo! I’m so thankful to the people who have given me this opportunity. I will be bringing some of the South West’s local talent with me to guest on my shows. So if anyone would like to come up with me, drop me a message on my social media.

Any stand out gigs?

This was my first year playing some of the local Festivals in Cornwall. I played at FrENDzy and Lizard Party. The Lizard Party really was a special one, as it was my 30th birthday that weekend and lots of my closest friends came down from Devon to spend the weekend partying with me and supported my set in the woods! I would love to play there again next year! Playing at festivals is my absolute favourite. Also, playing on the mighty RC1 audio rig at both of these festivals was amazing.

What’s next for you?

I’m currently working on some of my own tracks and hope to have something ready to put out soon. So keep your eyes peeled for that. I don’t want to share any of my ideas until I’m fully 100% happy with them.

I’d also like to start a weekly radio show from home, and have other DJ’s come and guest. I have a name for it and the logo designed onto a huge canvas on the front of my decks area already, I’m just waiting for fiber optic internet in my area, so I have a fast enough connection to link up multiple cameras through the software to go live.

Talk us through this podcast mix and your track selection.

Most of the tracks I’ve played in this mix are ones I’ve most enjoyed playing out to crowds this year. I wanted to take listeners on a journey with this mix. So expect to hear some timeless classics in the mix and most importantly, keeping those dark and heavy vibes flowing! I hope you enjoy the mix and thank you again for having me!
