We kick start our 2025 podcast series with Tommie Quick who brings the energy! Blaming a festive toblerone sugar rush, he has whipped up a hard dance mix. Tommie discusses how he is enjoying the new wave of energetic dance music which is reminiscent of the late 1990s hard house sound.
Please introduce yourself to those unfamiliar with your DJ sound.
I’m a DJ and Producer from the South West of the UK. I started DJing at just 11 years old, building up a full mobile rig in my bedroom complete with sound, lights and smoke machine etc. I started using this rig to plays kids parties in venues like church halls which then led onto early commercial club sets when I was 16.
While I have now specialised in dance music I always have been (and remain) very open minded musically. My sound is a mixture of multiple styles and genres, music to me is either good or bad. I play house, trance, techno and anything else in between. Generally, what I play regardless of genre is chunky, energetic and it bangs.
Tell us something positive to inspire future artists.
Progress takes work, success takes time, and everything is a journey. Make sure you be yourself along the way and enjoy the journey. Play and make the music that you feel passionate about, don’t focus on what everyone else is doing. Drink plenty of water.
What artists have inspired your DJ style?
In the early days it was DJs such as Judge Jules and Carl Cox but more recently I’m loving the sounds being championed by Patrick Topping and Hannah Laing just to name a few.
Talk us through your podcast mix track selection.
I’m not sure what happened here to be honest, I think the sugar rush from my third chunk of leftover Christmas Toblerone may have pushed me in a slightly tougher direction. I usually like my mixes to span multiple genres and build from groovier house vibes through to my harder edged sounds. This one starts off fairly chunky and builds through into harder edged house, trance and then topping it off with some hard techno.

I’m really enjoying where music is going now. In some styles it’s almost gone full circle with the current more upbeat house records starting to sound reminiscent of the hard house sound from 1999 – early 2000’s, and the harder edge of music veering towards the older hardstyle sound. I’m here for it all.
