Get ready for a journey into the electro audio delights of Drofler. He has crafted a podcast mix to transport you through different realms of tunes sprinkled with inspiration from Apex Twin. We love this mix!
Hi, Please introduce yourself to those unfamiliar with your DJ life.
Hello again. I’m Drofler (Steve) and I’m local to the Far West scene.
My DJ life has been limited as late but I’m hoping to be out and about quite a lot this year.
I’ve recently started “Clear” with a couple of guys and we did our 1st event late last year which went really well, everything considered. We’ve got a few nights in the making for later this year so I’m hoping to expand on that and get our names and style known. Keep a look out on our FaceBook page
Previously I’ve played at Algorithym, The Masked Ball, Frendzy, Bang Bang Club amongst other events and I've got a few tunes out there to be had.
Describe your DJ sound.
I’m into a synthetic sound. Plenty of 808’s 909’s and some Clicks, banks and buzzes with FM Strings to hold it all together, the less the better.
I like to play a blend of Melodic Techno and Electro. Maybe call it Mel-Telectro. I find so many genres are blending into each other now. If it's good, it’s good
Tell us how you have kept busy during the last year or so of lockdowns.
Really boring answer - I’m pretty busy with other stuff so playing out and studio time always comes last. I have however started making a library of favourite sounds and a have a pipe-dream of being locked in my room (possibly with Covid haha) and having nothing better to do but make tunes and noise.
I have done a bit of recording lately with my daughter who’s doing her GSCE music, laying down vocals and guitar. It’s a learning experience as I’ve never really thought about the way that “pop” songs are structured and to be honest its opened my mind a little.
Talk us through this podcast episode and why you have chosen to include the tracks that have made the cut.
I ’m hoping that this mix will come across as a nice journey with a few ups and downs. Maybe it's a train speeding through the Alps or a smooth flight hitting some mild turbulence.
You got some James Shinra on there and a couple of gems from Sheffields second finest label, CPU. A absolute beauty from Extrawelt and a track that isn’t Aphex Twin but is clearly is inspired by him.
Enjoy!
