Pete Tong will head up an Ibiza classics show with Jules Buckley conducting the Heritage Orchestra as day two of Plymouth's Ocean City Sounds open air event on Plymouth Hoe. The evening is being supported by Radio One's Danny Howard and Groove Armada's Tom Findley.
Pete Tong
There are few individuals in the world of dance music who can claim the kind of influence Pete Tong has had over the last twenty years. As the voice of Radio 1’s prestigious dance programming, Pete has held a commanding presence over the industry for more than two decades. His unique position has earned him a reputation as the global ambassador of dance music. With an unparalleled ear for new talent, Tong has become the leading tastemaker of the electronic generation. While he’s known publicly as Pete Tong the DJ, behind the scenes, he’s an industry icon.
This union of classical music and iconic dance tracks is another bold, brilliant move from one of the most influential figures in dance music. As the voice of Radio 1’s prestigious dance programming, Pete Tong has held a commanding presence over the industry for more than two decades. His unique position has earned him a reputation as the global ambassador of dance music.
The concept of Ibiza Classics and the album companion ‘Classic House’ released via Universal Music came into fruition in 2015 with BBC Radio 1’s Ibiza Prom at the Royal Albert Hall. With its infectious, energetic brand of club music reworked by artistic director Chris Wheeler, the 65-piece Heritage Orchestra and the acclaimed conductor Jules Buckley has captured the hearts of millions and created an unforgettable dance-party.
Since the proms went viral on BBC Iplayer, the demand for them to bring it to arenas saw over 30,000 tickets being sold and a recent live stream of The O2, London show racked up 11 million views in a matter of days!

Tom Findley
Groove Armada, are rooted in dance music’s seminal movements, with Andy Cato taking in Castlemorton and the free party scene, and Tom Findlay regularly attending the Hacienda during his formative university days in Manchester. When they met in London in the mid-90s, little did they know they would go on to make history themselves.
Groove Armada came to fruition as the name of a club night where Tom & Andy each hosted a floor, and the duo adopted the moniker when they started producing music together for Tim ‘Love’ Lee’s Tummy Touch label. A week spent in the remote countryside resulted in their debut album ‘Northern Star’ and breakthrough hit ‘At The River’, which was to prove the catalyst for major label recognition, million-selling albums, Grammy and Brit nominations, and a pioneering live show, establishing Groove Armada as one of the planet's best-loved dance acts. However, throughout their two decades of global success, they have remained as comfortable in sweat-soaked basements as on the big stages. Indeed, Tom & Andy began DJing properly as a duo in fabric’s Room 3 during the club’s early days, whilst more recently they have made Room 1 their own.
Tom Findlay is one half of cult DJ duo Groove Armada. They are now established as one of the planet’s best and biggest selling dance acts, have released seven studio albums and are famous for tracks including ‘Superstylin’ and ‘I See You Baby’.
Tom has played clubs and festivals across the world, from Ushuaia in Ibiza to Creamfields. He can’t wait to get the crowds partying in Plymouth: “I’m looking forward to bringing that Ibiza feeling to the South Coast this July and Plymouth Hoe is an incredible location, so it’s going to be a great night!”
Presenter, producer, tastemaker, influencer and all-round champion of electronic music: welcome to the ever-spinning world of Danny Howard.
Now, an established presenter on BBC Radio 1 (amassing more than a million listeners every Saturday afternoon), he’s out to widen his dance music net, both online with his own music and in the physical sense, making waves in the ever-growing sea of electronic music and DJs. His broad knowledge of the scene is the reason he's well respected as one of the world's leading dance music broadcasters, gaining props from the likes of Calvin Harris and Eric Prydz to Dusky and Nic Fanciulli. It’s not easy making all these plates spin, but it’s something he’s determined to do. “I always wanted to be a tastemaker and influencer and help lead the way in shaping UK dance worldwide” says Danny.
Danny’s ethos across the board is simple: whether it’s on the radio, at a festival or via a record he’s supporting, the same spirit and energy goes into everything. Some of the music you’ll know, and some will be brand new to you: but that’s precisely the point. Indeed, the music he supports is seeing him move into stronger line-ups both at home and overseas. At EDC in Vegas, Danny played on the Paradise stage alongside Hot Creations hero Jamie Jones and Green Velvet.
So this just leaves one last point, the music Danny’s making himself. He’s super-proud of his release schedule for this summer, which includes an EP for Shadow Child’s acclaimed Food Music as well as EP’s for Toolroom and legendary Scottish label Glasgow Underground; the label that once nurtured Mylo. And that’s just the start of this journey. “At the beginning of the year, I would say more people knew me for DJing and radio but I want to change that and step up my production game.”
Any last words at this point? “I want to represent the dance music world 360 degrees in terms of my radio shows, events and my own music. I'm determined and ready more than ever to continue doing my bit for the scene."
It's been five years since Danny first took to the airwaves on BBC Radio 1 and now he's looking ahead to the next five. Stay Tuned!
