Artist Interview

"I’ve once again dug in to the ‘funkin’ five stars’ crate and sprinkled it liberally with some choice cuts from the past 12 months..."

Hi Jack, great to have you back with another mix. Please introduce yourself to those unfamiliar with your work.

Hi I’m Jack, aka Morphosis, 1/3rd of The Hong Kong Ping Pong Club, South West party veteran, part time monkey wrangler.

How has 2019 shaped up for you?

2019 has been great, lots of incredible gigs played. Highlights have to be hosting the Ghetto Funk Nightclub on the Thursday night at Shindig Weekender and hosting our very own venue at Leopallooza.

What’s next for 2020?

We’ll be starting 2020 with a bang at The Pigs Nose Inn, East Prawle, one of our very favourite venues, currently lining up some gigs out in the Alps plus we have quite a few Festival bookings locked in already so all in all it’s looking to be a great year.

Talk us through your podcast tune selection.

I’ve once again dug in to the ‘funkin’ five stars’ crate and sprinkled it liberally with some choice cuts from the past 12 months, starting out nice & easy, finishing up ready to rock the party

Describe your current DJ sound.

We explore the thoughts of artists and music sharing. In today's digital age, discovering new music has become more accessible than ever due to online platforms like Spotify, SoundCloud, and download services such as Beatport. While traditional methods of exploring music, such as visiting record shops, have diminished in popularity, the process of musical exploration remains significant and enriching, especially when one encounters a standout track. For performing artists, the quest for fresh music is a continuous endeavor, often regarded as equally important as the performance itself. This raises an interesting question: is it appropriate for artists to keep the details of their music sources confidential? This topic invites further discussion from some of the South West DJs and producers on the nature of music discovery in the modern landscape.
